Here at Keep It Sweet we stock a large selection of Bubble Gum and Bubble Gum Balls. Bubble Gum was accidentally discovered by the Fleer Chewing Gum Company in 1928, when they were experimenting with new gum recipes. This gum became incredibly successful, and was eventually named Dubble Bubble because of its stretchy texture.
Modern Bubble Gum is typically produced from synthetic gum based materials, which allows for longer-lasting flavour and a better texture. Some modern Bubble Gum is produced from natural rubber, however natural rubbers have to pass several purity and cleanliness tests before use. Bubble Gum balls are produced by moulding gum into a sphere shape, and then placing these bubble gum balls into a large kettle where they are coated in a flavoured and coloured sucrose solution.
The largest Bubble Gum Bubble ever blown was by Susan Montgomery Williams of California, when she blew a whopping 26-inch bubble in 1996. Contrary to a common wives’ tale, swallowed gum will NOT stay in your system for seven years. Still, bubble gum is not designed to be swallowed, so better to throw it in the bin!
